2025 Summer Volunteer Teaching: Volunteer wanted

Thank you for the invitation from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) , CUHK students could participate in a voluntary teaching team during the summer break in Pontianak of Indonesia and Zunyi of Guizhou, Mainland China. This opportunity allows students to enter impoverished regions, interact with local students, and provide them with services and hope. CUHK students could also experience local culture with CUHK(Shenzhen) students. Below are the details for the two volunteer teaching teams:

 

Indonesian Volunteer Recruitment for Chinese Teaching in Pontianak

Date: 26th July, 2025 to 8th August, 2025 (13 days)

Location: Singkawang, Pontianak, Indonesia (Pontianak Common Hope Language School)

Quota: 4 students

Service: The volunteer teaching team will offer Chinese language instruction at the Chinese language schools (university level).  Additionally, participants will engage in visits and community service at local orphanages and secondary schools. They will also visit the Chinese community in Indonesia, immersing themselves in its culture and historical sites to experience its rich heritage.

Estimated cost: Approx. HKD 5,200* (already deducted the University subsidy of HKD 4,000/person)

 

Voluntary teaching in Zunyi, Guizhou

Date: 3rd August, 2025 to 15th August, 2025 (12 days)

Location: Zunyi, Guizhou, Mainland China (Zheda Primary School)

Quota: 4 students

Service: The volunteer teaching team will utilise local teaching materials to enhance students' foundational knowledge while exploring concepts beyond textbooks. We aim to inspire reflection through engaging, interactive, and enjoyable activities. Additionally, our team will conduct specialised activities that encompass diverse elements, empowering students to appreciate art, sports, history, and science, as well as encouraging students to participate in various competitive events.

Estimated cost: Approx. HKD 3,000* (already deducted the University subsidy of HKD 2,000/person)

 

*The University will provide a subsidy; however, the actual amount will depend on the final expenses. Any remaining funds will be reimbursed to the students.

**The costs include round-trip transportation, accommodation, partial meals, and a deposit of HKD 1,000 (which will be refunded to participants after the event).

Shortlisted interviewees will receive an email inviting to an interview before 12th June, 2025, and the interview will be conducted on Zoom.
