* Synopsis

Al Niente

Leaving music school, the happy-go-lucky Ling returns to Hong Kong to her dementia-stricken father, on whom she tries to conduct music therapy. Her demurer older sister Munn, the caretaker and sole supporter of the family, watches with disapproval. Playing the piano piece her father once taught her, Ling seems to register some change in her father’s condition, a glimmer of hope amidst the abyss of oblivion. However, secret animosity and rivalry eventually leads to open conflict between the two sisters, bringing out long-time family traumas. Will music save them? This film won Best Screenplay and Audience Award at 17th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival.

 3 Generations 3 Days

Ching is asked to take care of her grandmother who has arrived at Hong Kong from mainland China and is to be admitted into a nursing home soon. During the three days she and her grandmother spend time together, she learns more about her grandmother and how the past has shaped her mother with whom she finds difficult to communicate. The three women from different generations each has her own share of pain in striving to survive and fulfilling commitments in life. With her new insight, Ching is inspired to re-examine her relationship with her mother. This film won Fresh Wave Award and Best Director at 13th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival, and also Best Live Action Short Film at 56th Golden Horse Awards.

Old Man And A Dog

Chan, a solitary elderly, is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Forced out of his job because of declining health, he considers ending his own life as there is nothing in store for him other than the deep abyss of death. Ka-chun, Chan's grandson whom he has not seen for ages, makes a surprise visit and brings him an abandoned old dog at this very moment. Chan, Ka-chun and the dog form a bond, and in tender moments of respite the stoic Ka-chun grapples with the idea of death and saying goodbye. Although the encounter between the two dying souls does not change their destinies, it allows Chan and Ka-chun to accept the inevitable. This film won Best Screenplay and Audience Award at 13th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival.
