This summer, the Student Experience and Development Section (SEDS) of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) launched the WE.CARE Summer Blast 2025, a vibrant initiative designed to bring warmth, creativity, and connection to the CUHK community. With a focus on well-being and experiential learning, the programme offered a rich variety of activities that encouraged students to explore new perspectives, engage with the local culture, and care for themselves and others.
Over 160 CUHK students, including 9 from CUHK (Shenzhen), took part in this exciting summer campaign. Each activity was thoughtfully curated to provide meaningful experiences and foster personal growth.
The journey began with a cultural tour in To Kwa Wan, where students explored the theme “Transformation is Eternal – The Old Workshop”, gaining insights into the district’s evolving identity and heritage. This was followed by a sensory-rich experience in Sham Shui Po, where participants embarked on a culinary and literary journey that highlighted the district’s unique flavours and stories.

In the third session, students engaged in a scent-based dialogue with local designers and content creators, discovering how fragrance can express identity and emotion. The fourth session took a compassionate turn, as students spent a day volunteering to care for dogs and cats, deepening their understanding of empathy and service.

Creativity and mindfulness were also central to the programme. Students immersed themselves in the calming process of creating ocean-inspired resin fluid art, and experienced the joy of movement and teamwork through a Kinball workshop. Life values were explored through an interactive board game session, while yoga and meditation offered a peaceful retreat for inner reflection. To round off the summer, students crafted their own alcohol-free aromatherapy sprays, blending wellness with creativity.

Student Reflections
Ms. Fok, a first-year postgraduate student majoring in Chinese Language and Literature, joined the Life Education Board Game Workshop and reflected that: “Life is like an auction – deeply real and finite. Each of us only has so much time, and we simply can’t pursue everything. That’s why learning to prioritise, to let go, and to focus on what truly matters is essential. I’ve come to realise that many things aren’t as important as they once seemed. Through this, I’ve learned to re-examine my way of living, reset my life goals, and take meaningful steps toward achieving them.”
Ms. Lam, a year four undergraduate student majoring in Natural Sciences, joined the Day of Compassionate Service for Dogs & Cats and shared that “Working with the Society for Abandoned Animals in Yuen Long showed me the joy of helping others. Caring for stray animals fostered compassion and highlighted the importance of community responsibility. I learned the significance of listening, serving, and growing together, motivating me to stay engaged with my community in meaningful ways.”
Mr. Lei, a year three undergraduate student majoring in pharmacy, joined the Alcohol-Free Aromatherapy Spray Workshop and shared that “Aromatherapy has proven benefits in clinical settings, supported by research. As a pharmacist, I’m excited to explore its potential — both for personal well-being and as a complementary approach in medical care”.
The WE.CARE Summer Blast 2025 was more than just a series of events—it was a celebration of community, creativity, and care. As we look ahead to the new academic year, we carry with us the memories and lessons of a summer well spent.
