Election of Full-time Student Members to the Council
In accordance with Statutes 11.1(q) and 11.1(r) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance, membership of the Council includes the following elected student members:
- 1 student elected by, and from among full-time undergraduate students pursuing approved courses of study for a degree of Bachelor of the University, in a manner to be determined by the Council, and appointed by the Council; and
- 1 student elected by, and from among full-time postgraduate students pursuing approved courses of study for a degree of Master or Doctor of the University, or for any other academic award higher than a degree of Bachelor of the University, in a manner to be determined by the Council, and appointed by the Council.

CUHK places great emphasis on whole-person development, it has multiple affiliated student societies and interest clubs. Students are encouraged to join different clubs related to art and culture, sports, religious or social service, etc. Through participating societies’ activities, student can establish connections with like-minded individuals, explore and develop mutual interest, and thereby enrich their university life. Students can also unleash their potential, enhance their leadership skills, and expand their social networks through managing a society, hosting events, or creating new interest clubs, and therefore achieving students’ whole-person development.

The Student Activity Fund catalysts students’ holistic development, focusing on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Social Responsibility, Diversity and Inclusion, and Mental Wellness. It serves as a pillar of support for student-led initiatives. It aims to provide support to affiliated student societies for organizing creative, diverse, and meaningful student activities, as well as to support individual undergraduate students who join activities organized by non-CUHK entities, such as international or regional competitions, conferences, or overseas experiential learning programmes.
Empowering Youth Fund
Empowering Youth Fund (EYF) aims to empower CUHK students to serve our communities and enrich campus life by organising various campaigns and activities. EYF provides financial support for individual CUHK undergraduate students who want to empower other CUHK students or people in our communities. EYF also provides an opportunity for students to hone their leadership skills by fostering collaborations with selected partners.
All CUHK full-time undergraduate students are eligible to apply, either as individuals or as a team.

University Orientation Day
The University Orientation Day aims to prepare new undergraduate students for a flourishing and fruitful university life. Orientation talks will be organized to highlight the importance of CUHK core values, university life planning, and mental wellness. The nine Colleges will organize introductory talks and consultation sessions to introduce their distinctive features, educational ideas, hostel and facilities, scholarships and financial aid, etc. Promotion booths of Faculty/ Departmental Orientations and College Orientation Week for new Undergraduates will also be setup on the University Orientation Day.

The CUHK New Student Orientation Website serves as a comprehensive, one-stop resourceful platform for new students, guiding them through essential procedures before the academic year begins. With a warm welcome from university officials, the website also introduces new students to the CUHK community and highlights the Honour Code and Code of Conduct for Students, emphasising the importance of academic integrity and personal responsibility. The Joint Committee on New Student Orientation (JCNSO) collaborated with various Colleges, Faculties, Departments and administrative units to provide support to student organisers for organising their student-led orientation activities.

University orientation is essential for students transitioning to university life. It helps new students understand the university’s structure, connect with peers, access resources, and learn its values.
The Organising Committee on New Student Orientation (OCNSO) supports this each year by planning activities, coordinating relevant units, and monitoring effectiveness, reporting annually to the University.
A key focus is promoting diversity and inclusion, fostering a supportive campus environment. The orientation includes academic and non-academic elements, ensuring students grasp the advisory system and create meaningful peer connections

Senior students, trained in topics such as anti-sexual harassment and the National Security Law, assist in these efforts. Each September, the “Orientation Appreciation Happy Hour” recognises their contributions and gathers feedback for improvement.

Student Development Portfolio (SDP)
Student Development Portfolio (SDP) is a university-wide computer system for capturing and presenting students’ achievements and participation in Experiential Learning Activities (ELA)as students’ non-academic achievements during campus life, which is beneficial to students’ career development, further studies and other personal goals.
Upon students’ request, the University will issue one ELA Report (Report of Experiential Learning Activities), which includes both the UELA and SELA, free of charge to every student upon their graduation. To ensure record updates, activities organised or co-organised by university departments and colleges, accumulating no less than eight hours, will be entered into students’ UELA records by the university department after the end of each academic year. Students can also independently input records of activities and services organised by student organisations or external organisations (SELA) for each academic year at any time.
