2024-25 Yushan Island - Rural Revitalisation Summer Service-Learning Tour

Yushan Island, with glittering scenery, is known as one of the “Ten Most Beautiful Islands in China”. This summer, the CUHK Bridge to China (WZQ) Team will go to Yushan Island to organise a rural revitalisation summer service-learning trip. Students will not only be able to enjoy the natural scenery but also engage in the revitalisation of the villages and explore local cultural values.

 

Activities including:

  • Categorising local historical documents and artefacts, exploring the history and culture of Yushan Island

  • Analysing the evolution of the local culture and helping to revitalise the island

  • Participating in minor renovation projects to improve the living conditions of the islanders and to increase the utilisation of the space on the island

  • Painting murals to capture the unique cultural stories of the island

  • Combining artistic creativity and local history, design exhibitions reveal the island's cultural heritage and development

 

Event Details:

Date: 7 July to 14 July 2025 (8 days)

Venue: Yushan Island, Fujian Province, China

Quota: 24 CHUK students

Estimated Fee: HK$4,000

Actual payment after deducting the estimated subsidy: HK$3,000 

*The university will provide subsidies, but the actual amount depends on the final expenses.

**Deposit: HK$1,000 (included in the HK$4,000 activity fee) will be returned to participants after they complete the activity

Shortlisted interviewees will receive a confirmation email before May 13, 23:59, and they can choose the available interview timeslots in the email. The interview will be conducted on Zoom.

 

Results notification date: May 17-18, 2025
