Understanding Life from Death, Appreciation the Beauty of Life
In traditional thinking, death may be considered a taboo topic, and many people are reluctant to engage with or understand it. However, "birth, aging, illness, and death" are inevitable stages of life. By early understanding of "life and death education," it can help alleviate society's fear of death and enable individuals to live a happier and more fulfilling life.
The Life and Death Education (LDE) Programme aims to create a platform for students to explore Hong Kong's death culture, dwell on the meaning of life, enhance self-awareness, and review their paths and directions in life. The programme for this term is as follows:
Activity 1: Movie Screening of Seven Days in Heaven with post-screening discussion
Seven Days in Heaven
107 minutes | IIA | Directed by Essay Liu, Wang Yu-lin
Ah Mei, a successful career woman returned to her village home in central Taiwan within seven days of her father's death. She goes through traditional and complicated funeral ceremonies, which evokes memories and longing for her father. The scenes of serious but ridiculous black humor make people re-understand death and reflect on life.
The film was adapted from the same name prose written by Essay Liu; it won the Best Adapted Screenplay Award at the 47th Golden Horse Awards.

Activity 2: The View of Life from Planting -- Horticulture Therapy Workshop: Container Planting x Mindfulness x Four Principles of Life
Human beings are naturally yearning for nature, but busy urbanites do not often have the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature. By container planting, you can bring a little bit of green indoors. Different people have different interpretation and presentation of container plants. Participants can express their thoughts on the natural environment and society during the process of arranging the space of plants in the container. This workshop combines horticultural therapy and mindfulness to explore the four principles of life.
