Mobile CU Small-group Reunion 2024-25: Enrolment Open for November Events

At this moment, feel your breath, savour the beauty of everyday life, explore endless possibilities.

In this rapidly changing era, we focus on the present moment, observe daily life closely, discover new perspectives, explore different elements and issues in the campus and around the city, and engage with and connect to the community and other people. This year, there will be several group activities led by current or past CUHK teachers with various themes and forms. We appreciate the enthusiastic feedback on the October activities and are excited to introduce the enriching lineup of events for November. Here are the details:


6th Session – Chocolate Tasting Night

Are there ways to enhance the enjoyment of tasting chocolate? Are there established systems for systematically reviewing chocolate tastings? How can one differentiate authentic chocolate from imitations? What defines fine chocolate?

Come and join the Chocolate Tasting Night for insights into these questions. Participants will have opportunity to taste and compare 10 different types of dark chocolate, gaining a comprehensive understanding of chocolate tasting. The origins of chocolate and its making process will also be introduced. We invite chocolate enthusiasts to explore the fascinating world of chocolate.

7th Session – Tea Meditation

A college head, Prof. Leung will take you to go on a mindful journey by tea tasting. This experience will help participants enhance their ability on awareness and cultivate inner peace.

8th Session – Cocktail Making Workshop

Cocktails play a significant role in various social settings and often add a touch of fun to events. In this cocktail making workshop hosted by Dr. Li Chun Hong from the Office of University General Education, participants will have the opportunity to experience the culture and creation process of cocktails. Dr. Li will guide the students through making a variety of classic cocktails, offering a chance to enjoy a wonderful moment together!

9th Session – The Science of Life - Learning in the Physics Laboratory

Dr. Tong will lead this event, highlighting the everyday applications of science through engaging experiments. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the CUHK Science Centre and laboratories. All students are welcome to explore physics mysteries and enjoy the fun of science together.

10th Session – A Look into the State of BL Culture in Hong Kong

BL culture originated from Japanese shoujo manga in the 1970s. Over time, it has gradually developed worldwide. In Hong Kong, BL culture is mainly presented through comics and mini drama series via online platforms, gaining popularity among the younger generation. What difficulties and challenges do traditional Chinese family values and legal regulations on gender-related topics in Hong Kong pose to creating BL content and operating BL spaces? This event will engage with students to discuss how Hong Kong-style BL culture survives and develops.

11th Session – “Keep it Simple, Let it Go” – Exploring Life and Death through a Visit to a Funeral Social Enterprise

Visit the Social Enterprise “Keep it Simple, Let it Go” to learn about green burial, funeral planning and end-of-life care.  The host will also share with participants his experience in handling bodies of the deceased and promoting body donation.

 

Through a visit to the funeral social enterprise "Keep it Simple, Let it Go," we will together listen closely to the stories behind the enterprise and glimpse into life and death through the daily work of funeral directors. Under the guidance of the host, participants will delve into understanding funeral services, funeral planning, end-of-life care, and hear them share valuable experiences in the handling of deceased bodies and promoting body donation, exploring the importance of life and death education.

Enrolment Procedures:

 

  1. Complete the online enrolment form (if you want to apply for more than one activities, please submit one application form for each activity).

  2. The reason(s) of participation filled by applicants will be used for screening if the number of enrolment exceeds the quota.

  3. Selection result will be announced via email around one to two weeks prior to the event date (notification will be sent to all applicants).

  4. Successful applicants should settle the payment for tickets and materials, etc. (if applicable) or present the deposit (if required) by cash at the Student Experience and Development Session, Office of Student Affairs (Room 501, Wong Foo Yuan Building) according to the period stated in the notification email.  Upon arrival, the payees should provide their name, student ID number on the CU Link and contact number for our record.  The opening hours of this session is as follows: 

    Monday - Thursday: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 5:30 pm

    Friday: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 5:45 pm

    Saturday, Sunday & Public Holiday: Closed

  5. Successful applicants who fail to pay the related fees or place deposit within the designated period will have their enrolment cancelled.  Their seats will be assigned to those on the waiting list accordingly.

  6. Those who have duly settled the payment or placed deposit will receive an email notification to confirm their enrolment.

 

Remarks:

 

  1. All activities are open to CUHK students only.

  2. The number of activities for enrolment can be more than one.  It is, however, prohibited to submit multiple enrolment forms for a particular activity.  The enrolment will be rescinded in this case.

  3. Participants should present their CU Link when attending the activity.

  4. Participants who cannot attend the activity are required to cancel the registration in advance through email.

  5. Deposit is refundable on punctual attendance only.  Participants who do not show up at the activity will be accountable for the forfeit of deposit.

  6. All paid enrolment fees are non-refundable (not applied to the adverse weather that causes cancellation of the activity concerned).
